Impact Investing Institute, Property Funds Research, Homes England and the Investment Property Forum launch ground-breaking report on social housing investment
The Impact Investing Institute, in partnership with Property Funds Research and supported by Homes England and Investment Property Forum, today publish a ground-breaking and comprehensive report detailing the investment case for UK social housing.
The UK continues to experience significant shortages of affordable housing and yet the role of private finance in contributing answers to this need has been under-examined. Currently around 70% of capital raised by Private Registered Providers to invest in social and affordable housing is from private (predominantly debt) financing sources, up from 30-40% in the 2000s, while there are increasing levels of equity investment from institutions in the sector. This authoritative report analyses this investment, and investigates the merits or otherwise of including social and affordable housing assets within institutional investment portfolios.
AREF Research & Information Committee have commissioned a report, written by Property Funds Research and Real Estate Strategies, and sponsored by Mourant, considering the impact of the Global Financial Crisis on the UK Real Estate Funds Industry.
It has been over a decade since the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) and the consequences have been felt across economies and industries around the world. The UK real estate funds industry has been no exception. There is little doubt that behaviours and attitudes to investment and risk from both investors and managers of UK real estate funds have changed over the past 10 years in response to experiences caused by the GFC.
The report examines data from the MSCI/AREF Property Fund Vision Handbook and MSCI/AREF Property Funds Index and covers the central themes of fund investment: the universe; performance; stock selection; liquidity and fees and how these have evolved over the last 10 years. Part two, due to be published later this year, will examine the future of the AREF funds universe over the next 10 years.
Nick Colley's article on the investment case for institutional investment in UK social housing has been published in the January/February edition of the IPE Real Estate Magazine. The research is part of a larger project sponsored by the Impact Investing Institute and Homes England which will be published later this month.
COVID-19: This is an unprecedented and volatile environment with facts changing on a daily basis. It is important to be clear; nobody knows what the actual impact of COIVID-19 on the global economy will be. And it is likely that this remains the status quo until healthcare experts have provided a way of limiting the spread of the disease. The economic crisis requires the health crisis to be solved first.
